Community Compass offer creative new ways for older people to stay social, get active and have fun.
Our aim is to improve the lives of older people in Cheshire through a social enterprise that helps communities to deliver sustainable, creative and active social groups or ‘Compass Clubs’.
We have both worked with older people for years – we met working at Age UK Cheshire on their Casserole Club and Wear Purple projects. Loneliness is a huge problem in Cheshire West, and we saw a need for something that could help communities to build their own support networks to prevent loneliness on a local level.
We host a range of weekly Compass Club activities including creative writing, poetry, jigsaws, music groups, card crafts, knitting, badminton, bunting making, singing and jamming. The clubs always, always involve a cup of tea, a friendly chat and Yvonne’s amazing home baked cakes!
Our ‘Share Clubs’ match lonely older people with a local volunteer who wants to give their time to help their community. That may be through a weekly visit and delivery of free FareShare groceries, dropping round with a healthy home cooked meal or through a regular phone call.
By signing up to the Share Club, members are also invited to a monthly day out where they can make or meet new friends, participate in a range of activities, enjoy a hot home-cooked lunch and go home with a packed tea and some fresh groceries. Free transport is also available on request.
